Many dead in a fight at a football match in Guinea

Dozens of people have been killed in a brawl during a football match in Nzérékoré in southeastern Guinea. This is according to hospital sources for AFP.

- It all started with an unpopular referee's decision. The supporters invaded the pitch, a witness told the news agency.

A doctor states that around 100 people have died, and that bodies fill the hospital "as far as the eye can see".

According to local media, the match was part of a tournament organized in honor of junta leader Mamadi Doumbouya.

56 people have died in the riot that broke out during a soccer match in Nzérékoré in southeastern Guinea on Sunday. This is stated by the country's government, writes Reuters.

Among the victims are children. There are also said to be many injured, several of them critically, AP writes.

It was when football supporters stormed the pitch after an unpopular refereeing decision that chaos erupted. According to the AP, supporters should have thrown stones and security personnel responded with tear gas, after which people should have tried to flee the arena in panic.

The country's Prime Minister Bah Oury condemns the chaos and calls for calm.
