Paasikivi on the giant attack: Strange that we are surprised
It is surprising that we in the West are surprised by the large-scale attack that Russia carried out against Ukraine yesterday with over 90 robots and almost 200 drones. This is what former lieutenant colonel Joakim Paasikivi says to SvD. Namely, it is similar to several other attacks that the country has carried out in recent months.
The strategy is to send as many robots and drones as possible to saturate the air defense and thus be able to destroy as much of the power grid as possible, according to Paasikivi.
- The fact that these larger attacks have come recently is likely because Russia wants to have an effect before the winter, that it will be really cold for the Ukrainians.
If the Russians succeed in their goal of knocking out energy systems and power plants, the consequences would be, according to Paasikivi, "extremely difficult".
Zelenskyj: New drone attack against Ukraine last night
Russia carried out an attack with at least 130 drones against Ukraine during the night of Saturday. This is stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Telegram.
60 of the drones are said to have been shot down by Ukraine's air defense.
"We succeed in protecting our people and our infrastructure from most threats, but unfortunately not from all".
The overnight attack on Friday was described as one of the biggest since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
