NATO's future
NATO chief: "The danger is moving towards us at full speed"

NATO chief Mark Rutte believes that the defense alliance must "turbocharge" defense spending to meet the threat from Russia and prevent "the next big war", reports Reuters.

According to him, the agreement that each member state should spend two percent of GDP on defense is no longer enough.

- We are not ready for what will come our way in four or five years. The danger is moving towards us at full speed, says Rutte during a speech in Brussels on Thursday.

Political situation in Somalia
Ethiopia and Somalia reconcile over port

Ethiopia and Somalia have reached an agreement to end the conflict over a port in Somaliland, several media reports.

Landlocked Ethiopia earlier this year struck an agreement with the breakaway region of Somaliland to gain access to a port in the area. It did not like Somalia, which considers Somaliland to be part of its territory.

Both countries now promise to respect each other's sovereignty at a press conference in Ankara. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was involved in the negotiations, calls it "a historic agreement".

Israel-Iran
Israel considers attack on Iran's nuclear targets

Israel's military sees a chance to strike against Iran's nuclear weapons program after the fall of al-Assad in Syria, military sources told the Times of Israel. The Air Force has now increased readiness and preparations for such attacks.

The IDF says it knocked out more than 85 percent of Syrian air defenses, giving Israeli warplanes and drones air supremacy.

It is also believed that Iran may accelerate its nuclear weapons program after the fall of al-Assad and the weakening of Hezbollah in Lebanon, with the aim of increasing its deterrence.

Iran currently has no nuclear weapons, but has a history of nuclear weapons research in violation of its international commitments, according to the Council on Foreign Relations think tank.

Analysts in the West assess that the country has the ability to produce nuclear weapons fairly quickly if the leadership decides to do so.
