New Fire Takes Off in California: “Not a Good Place”

A new fire has broken out near Castaiac, California, reports the LA Times. 19,000 people have been ordered to evacuate.

The alarm comes as the state struggles to recover from the devastating fires that raged there in the first month of the year.

The new fire, named Hughes, has not yet caused any major material damage or claimed any lives. However, it may be a matter of time, according to climate expert Daniel Swain at UCLA.

“This is not a good place to have a fire with a northeasterly wind. There is an almost unbroken and very dense supply of fuel in that direction.

30,000 evacuated as new fire takes off

30,000 people are being evacuated from Los Angeles as the new “Hughes” fire takes off, Sky News reports.

The latest wildfire broke out on Wednesday morning about sixty miles from the devastating flames in Eaton and Palisades.

In just a few hours, the fire department estimated that Hughes had grown to 3,800 hectares and that it is currently completely out of control.

Another 25,000 LA residents may be evacuated soon.
