Judge temporarily stops Trump's subsidy plans
Donald Trump's plans to pause subsidies, loans and other government support have been stopped by a federal judge, US media report. According to the plan, the pause was to take effect at 11:00 p.m. Swedish time, but after the judge's decision, it has now been postponed for a week.
New negotiations on the proposal are expected on Monday, in six days.
During the day, the news that government support is being paused has been a big topic of conversation in the US media. A vaguely worded document that the US media took note of did not specify exactly which support would be paused.
During the evening, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that this is not a general pause for all support.
Analysis: "Critics must beware of Trump's fury"
Donald Trump has been US president for a week and has already introduced a series of measures to get at his opponents. In an analysis on CNN, Stephen Collinson writes about Trump’s “purges and pardons.”
Collinson mentions, among other things, that employees who investigated Trump for crimes have been fired and that those who participated in the storming of the Capitol have been pardoned.
“Trump is sending a frightening message through the American government. Officials who stand in his way, investigate his abuse of power or join his critics must beware of his fury,” the text says.
In his first days in the White House, Trump has also tried to disorient the opposition from the Democrats, writes The Atlantic’s Jonathan Lemire. The president has already taken a number of measures, held press conferences and made sharp statements on social media.
“Some of this is, of course, Trump’s nature,” writes Lemire, emphasizing that the president is a “showman” who demands attention.
“But this time, Trump’s constant presence is also a conscious strategy.”

The Homeland Security Secretary: "We Have Jurisdiction Over Everything"
These were words and no rhymes from Kristi Noem, the new US Homeland Security Secretary, when she spoke to the department's employees for the first time since she was approved by the Senate. According to her, the Homeland Security Department has "jurisdiction over everything".
The department is one of the largest in the US and is responsible for the US border and customs, among other things.
- We have jurisdiction over people who live here, people who leave here and people who come here, she says according to US media.
According to Noem, her new department will "use all the powers to protect the United States".
Caroline Kennedy: Do not approve the "predator" RFK
Caroline Kennedy is urging the US Senate not to approve her cousin Robert Kennedy Jr. as US health secretary, several media outlets report. In a letter obtained by the Washington Post, she calls “RFK” a “predator” obsessed with attention and power.
Caroline Kennedy accuses him of having vaccinated his own children while being a vocal anti-vaccine activist.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the Senate will convene to question Robert Kennedy Jr., who was nominated for the position by President Donald Trump even before the election. If all Democrats and three Republicans vote against Kennedy, he will not be confirmed, according to Axios.

Netanyahu becomes first to be invited to the White House
Benjamin Netanyahu is the first foreign leader to be invited to the White House since Donald Trump won the election. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office states that Netanyahu is welcome to the US in exactly one week, on February 4, according to several media outlets.
This week, Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to Israel to meet with the Prime Minister.
