One dead and several injured after new firefight in Lebanon

For the second day in a row, Israeli forces have opened fire on Lebanese people trying to return to villages in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least one person has been killed and seven injured, AFP writes.

Residents made new attempts to get over the Israeli barriers on Monday. According to Lebanese media, the country's military is also said to have been on site and Israel is said to have fired "in the direction of the Lebanese military".

Israel has not commented on Monday's reports.

On Sunday, 24 Lebanese were killed and over 134 were injured when Israel fired on crowds trying to return to villages in southern Lebanon.

US: Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon extended

 Lebanon and Israel have extended a ceasefire agreement that allows Israeli military to remain in the area until February 18.

Israel reverses the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. It has now been extended to February 18, the White House wrote in a statement.

The two countries had previously agreed that Israel would leave Lebanon on January 26. But on Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that they would not withdraw. He said that “the agreement has not yet been fully implemented by the Lebanese state”.

Over the weekend, more than 20 people were killed and at least 120 people were injured in southern Lebanon, reports TT. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli soldiers opened fire on residents who were trying to return to their villages.
