Russia claims that the US is preparing to deploy nuclear weapons in Greenland.

The Americans are expanding the Pituffik air base for nuclear-armed F-35 fighter jets, claims Russian ambassador Vladimir Babrin.

Denmark has a policy towards NATO that nuclear weapons may not be deployed on its soil in peacetime.

But now – shortly after Donald Trump’s stated desire to buy Greenland from Denmark, and the future president’s refusal to rule out the use of military force to take the island – the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Babrin, claims that the US wants to place nuclear weapons on Greenland:

– The US air base Pituffik is currently part of the US missile attack warning system in the Arctic. There, a modernization is currently taking place, including the radar systems, which is costing the US several billion dollars. The air base is also creating infrastructure for the F-35 fighter jet, which can carry nuclear weapons. Such fighter jets have already landed at the air base in connection with military exercises, Babrin claims in an

 interview with the state-run Russian new agency Ria Novosti.
