Austrian Chancellor resigns – talks collapsed

Austrian conservative Chancellor Karl Nehammer will resign in the next few days, writes AP. This after government talks with the country's Social Democrats SPÖ collapsed.

Nehammer says that they have tried in every possible way but that "destructive" parts of SPÖ did not want to reach a solution.

- It is not possible to agree with SPÖ on essential points, says Nehammer.

This is the second time that talks have collapsed. The parties have previously governed together but received the smallest possible majority in the autumn elections.
