The change of power in the US Trump's first day

All US Aid Stopped for 90 Days

Donald Trump is stopping all US aid for 90 days. He writes in a statement that the "aid industry and bureaucracy" are not in line with American interests, and that they sometimes go against the country's values.

During the 90-day pause, the administration will evaluate whether the aid is in line with Trump's foreign policy.

"No further US foreign aid should be disbursed in a manner that is not fully in line with the foreign policy of the President of the United States," the presidential order states.

Analysis: Nothing stands in Trump's way now

"Nothing will stand in our way," said Donald Trump on his first day as US president, leaving the WHO, firing several officials and renaming the country's highest mountain, Denali, to Mount McKinley.

Six words that describe how Trump's second term will differ from his first, writes the New York Times' David Sanger in an analysis. This time, he knows how to get things done, both practically and symbolically.

During his inauguration, Trump claimed that he will be remembered as a peacemaker. But the president's focus is on rolling back the liberal ideas that he believes have run amok in society, undermined his first term and tried to put him behind bars, according to Sanger.

The Washington Post's Aaron Blake is on the same track, writing that Trump sees himself as an antidote to what he described as "a radical and corrupt establishment."

Trump is also threatening to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada in February, which increases the risk of a continental trade war. The president confirmed that he has received an invitation to China, but said nothing about trade between the countries. Something that suggests that he will use any tariffs as a negotiating tool, writes CNN's Stephen Collinson in an analysis.

Trump fires officials who do not share his vision

President Donald Trump and his team will fire over a thousand officials appointed by the previous administration who do not share his vision of "making America great again". Trump writes this in his first post on the Truth Social platform since he was sworn in.

But initially he has only named four people so far, including Mark Milley, who was Trump's military chief during his first term. Milley will therefore not be allowed to continue as an advisor on infrastructure issues, as Joe Biden appointed him.

"You are fired," Trump writes in the post.
