The change of power in the US Trump's first term

Xi and Putin in talks – hours after Trump's inauguration

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping spoke via video call just hours after Donald Trump took office, reports Politico. During the conversation, the two presidents are said to have promised to deepen their cooperation.

Trump has promised a quick end to the war in Ukraine and threatened heavy trade tariffs against China.

The Guardian writes that neither Xi nor Putin mentioned Donald Trump during the part of the conversation that has been made public, but that it is still seen as a sign that they have begun to coordinate their foreign policy towards the US.

Mexican president laughs off Trump's name change

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum started laughing when she was asked on Tuesday about Donald Trump's decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf, writes the AP.

- For us, it is still the Gulf of Mexico and for the rest of the world, it is also still the Gulf of Mexico, she said.

Trump promised during his inauguration speech on Tuesday to change the name, as well as the name of North America's highest mountain, which is currently Mount Denali.

Sheinbaum has previously responded to Trump's proposal about the Gulf by suggesting that North America be renamed América Mexicana.

Trump on the bishop's prayer for LGBT people and migrants: "Not so cool"

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde urged the newly elected President Donald Trump to protect LGBT people and migrants in his inaugural sermon at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

- In the name of God, I ask you for mercy for those whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, she said, after talking about the illegal immigrants that Trump has promised to throw out of the country.

The bishop also mentioned that LGBT children "in Democratic, Republican and independent families" fear for their lives.

Donald Trump sat quietly and did not move a finger. Afterwards, his comment about the sermon was:

-Not so cool.

Strong support for Donald Trump in the first survey

47 percent of Americans have a positive attitude towards Donald Trump in an initial opinion poll, conducted partly in the hours that have passed since he was sworn in on Monday.

That is stronger support than Trump had during most of his previous term, writes Reuters. Trump then began with support of 43 percent. He peaked at 49 percent and ended at his lowest figure ever: 34 percent.

At the same time, 58 percent respond that they do not believe that Trump should pardon everyone involved in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. On Tuesday, Donald Trump pardoned almost all of the 1,600 people indicted – and ended the sentences for another 14.
