The shift in power in the US

Meta's explanation: This is why thousands of Americans are suddenly following Trump

A number of Americans claim that they have been added as followers of Donald Trump, Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance on Facebook and Instagram against their will after the change of power in the US.

That is true, the owner company Meta tells the New York Times. But it is not a concession to the Trump administration.

In fact, the accounts belonging to the president, his partners and the vice president are always “inherited” between administrations. This was also done when Trump won last time and took over Obama’s accounts, when Biden later won after Trump, and now that Trump is back.

– The accounts are controlled by the White House and with a new administration, the content on them is simply replaced, Meta spokesman Andy Stone told the newspaper.

Milei threatens Musk's critics: "Shake, leftist"

Argentine ultra-liberal President Javier Milei launches a frontal attack on those he calls "leftists" in defense of Elon Musk. In a post on X, he writes that Musk is "one of the most important men in history" who, according to Milei, is being unjustly accused of making a Nazi salute during President Donald Trump's inauguration.

The reason, he claims, is that Musk is attacking "international woke-ism." But the world has changed, writes Javier Milei and concludes:

"We are not afraid of you anymore. We will chase you to the ends of the earth in defense of freedom. Shake, leftist."

US sends 1,500 soldiers to Mexican border

The Pentagon is sending 1,500 soldiers to the border with Mexico, reports the AP. There are already 2,500 reservists and members of the National Guard stationed at the border.

– This is a campaign promise from President Trump. The American people have been waiting for this, for our Department of Defense to finally take our country's security seriously, says White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Until now, no active-duty military personnel have guarded the border. It is also unclear exactly what their duties will be – under current law, it is illegal for the military to take over police duties.

Message from the Ku Klux Klan spreads after the change of power: “Hardly a coincidence”

Flyers from the Ku Klux Klan urging immigrants to leave the state have begun to spread in several cities in Kentucky after Donald Trump’s election victory, reports the Washington Post.

The flyers show a cartoon image of “Uncle Sam” kicking a family with children in front of him and holding a sign proclaiming “mass deportation”.

– I’ve never seen anything like it. It was quite upsetting to our community, said Bellevue Police Chief Jon McCain, who also said it was “hardly a coincidence” that the flyers began being distributed on the same day Trump was sworn in as president.

Trump called the Ku Klux Klan “disgusting” in 2017. His administration has not commented on the events in Kentucky.
