Political situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina
Dodik's candidate heads for victory in Republika Srpska
Sinisa
Karan, handpicked by ousted president Milorad Dodik, looks set to win
the election in Republika Srpska, the Serb part of Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
According to the election commission, which
presented the results after 93 percent of the votes were counted, Sinisa
Karan received 50.9 percent and challenger Branko Blanusa 47.8 percent.
Dodik
was ousted by a court in the country after signing a law granting the
region independence. He was sentenced to a year in prison and banned
from holding political office for six years.
When Dodik gave a victory speech together with Karan, he took the opportunity to criticize the verdict.
Violence in Pakistan
Three dead in suicide attack on headquarters in Pakistan
At
least three police officers have been killed and five injured after
several suicide bombers attacked the Border Police headquarters in
Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan, reports the AP.
One of the
suicide bombers detonated his explosive device at the entrance to the
headquarters while another was shot dead in a parking lot.
The
police chief in Peshawar, Saeed Ahmad, told the news agency that the
terrorists' goal was to strike the daily morning parade in the area.
- A quick response prevented a much greater tragedy.
No
actor has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but AP notes that
the Pakistani Taliban have previously been blamed for similar attacks.
The verdict against Bolsonaro
HD decision: Bolsonaro to remain in custody
Jair
Bolsonaro is being remanded in custody pending the start of serving his
27-year prison sentence. The country's highest court has decided this,
Brazilian media reports.
HD suspects that the 70-year-old former
president is trying to provoke confrontations between his supporters and
the police in order to escape. He was arrested this weekend after he
tried to destroy his electronic ankle cuff with a soldering iron while
his supporters demonstrated outside his home.
“This aggravates the threat to public order and confirms the need for detention,” High Court judge Flávio Dino told G1 Globo.
The
defense has applied for continued house arrest due to his age and
health, according to Bloomberg. The High Court has rejected the
application, but it can still be appealed.
The railway attack in Poland
Third Ukrainian suspected of railway sabotage
A
Ukrainian man has been arrested in Poland, suspected of having
participated in the railway sabotage earlier in November, Reuters
reports.
He is the third Ukrainian to be singled out and is suspected, like the others, of collaborating with Russia.
The two previous suspects, however, have not been arrested because they are believed to have fled to Belarus.
