Tariff crisis Trump's tariff policy

EU: No new tariff deal with the US expected

The EU does not expect a new deal on the tariff agreement with the US when the Union receives a visit from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Monday. This is stated by EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic for Bloomberg.

- Today is not about negotiations but about a review of the current situation, he says.

The visit is the first since the tariff agreement was concluded in July. At that time, US tariffs of 15 percent were imposed on most EU goods.

During the visit, EU representatives are expected to press Lutnick and Greer about Washington's decision to extend the 50 percent steel tariff to over 400 European products, which has raised concerns that the trade agreement is being eroded. For its part, the US has expressed concern that the EU is not implementing the agreement quickly enough, as the European Parliament has not yet formally ratified it. Washington is also pushing to soften the Union's digital and environmental regulations.'

Treasury Secretary: "No risk of recession next year"

Despite the US economy struggling with problems, there is no risk of recession next year. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed this in a CNBC interview this weekend.

- I am very, very optimistic about 2026. We have laid the foundation for a very strong, non-inflationary growth economy.

Tax cuts and relief for households will do their part, according to Bessent. He also believes that healthcare costs will become more affordable after being temporarily pushed up.
