Trump's USA

Tensions in the Caribbean
Maduro drew sword: "Ready to defend every inch"

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro drew a sword said to have belonged to independence hero Simón Bolívar during a speech to his supporters last night.

- We must be ready to defend every inch of this blessed country from imperialist threats or aggression, regardless of where they come from, he said, according to Sky News.

The United States has hinted several times this fall that it may be planning a military attack on Venezuela. The aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford has been stationed within range of the country.

- President Trump is prepared to use every ounce of American power to stop drugs from flowing into our country, an anonymous government source told Reuters earlier this week.

The President's health
Less visible and later - signs that Trump is affected by age

Donald Trump has gotten older since his first term, and it shows, writes the New York Times. The newspaper has, among other things, reviewed the president's schedule and the scant health data released by his private doctor.

It shows, among other things, that Trump's public appearances have decreased by 39 percent compared to his first term, and that they begin on average more than an hour later in the day. The president has also reportedly lost weight, although he is still considered overweight.

No detailed health reports for Donald Trump have been made public for many years. The president and his staff repeatedly claim that he is in top physical condition.

- His aides and doctors have created this fiction about his health to hide the cold, hard reality that he is 79 years old, and one of the oldest people to ever sit in the Oval Office, says Matthew Dallek, a political historian at George Washington University, to the newspaper.

The indictment against Trump
Georgia election interference charges dropped

The indictment against Donald Trump, in the case in which he was accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, is being dropped by a state prosecutor, CNN reports.

The investigation was launched after Trump, in a high-profile phone call, urged his Republican party colleague Brad Raffensperger to "find" enough votes for him to win the state in the presidential election against Joe Biden.

The indictments against several of Trump's allies are also being dropped. Prosecutor Peter Skandalakis, who recently took over the case, will not pursue the charges further.

- It does not serve the citizens of Georgia to pursue this case for another five to ten years, he says according to ABC News.

Border issue
Karoline Leavitt's relative about to be deported

The US immigration agency ICE has detained a woman who is related to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. NBC News reports. It concerns the mother of one of Leavitt's nieces.

A spokesperson for the US Department of Homeland Security states that the woman, who is a Brazilian citizen, remained in the US after her tourist visa expired in 1999.

The family states in an online fundraiser that she came to the US as a child in 1998 and has "done everything in her power to build a stable, decent life".

She is said to have previously had protection through the DACA program, which protects people who immigrated to the US illegally as children.
