The USA needs Greenland.

Donald Trump says this in an interview with The Atlantic.

In a new interview with The Atlantic magazine, Donald Trump says that the USA "absolutely needs Greenland".

The American president explains that they need the island for their defense.

The statement was made in connection with an interview about the American attack in Venezuela.

"Our country is not for sale"

In the interview, the US president tells the journalist from The Atlantic that Venezuela may not be the last country to be subjected to an American "intervention".

Last night, Katie Miller, who previously worked for Trump and is married to one of his advisors, posted a picture of an X on Greenland colored like an American flag.

"Soon", she wrote in capital letters in the post.

Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen earlier today called Katie Miller's picture "tasteless".

"Our country is not for sale and our future is not determined by posts on social media", Nielsen wrote in a post on Facebook.

"Not right"

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is now also responding to Trump's statement.

She calls on the US to stop threatening a historically close ally and emphasizes that Greenland is part of NATO and is therefore covered by the alliance's security guarantee.

- It is absolutely pointless to talk about the US needing to take over Greenland. The US has no right to annex any of the three countries in

, she tells Danish TV2.

Danish media reports that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been in contact with his Danish colleague Mete Frederiksen today.

Starmer is said to have called the Danish Prime Minister and they are said to have spoken about the importance of having a united front against Trump.

Kristersson backs Denmark

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) is also against Trump - and stands behind Denmark.

“Only Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide on issues concerning Denmark and Greenland,” he writes on X and continues:

“Sweden fully stands up for our neighboring country.”
