Denmark requests a meeting with the US: "Want to find out what is up and what is down"

Denmark's foreign affairs committee has finished its crisis meeting on "the kingdom's relationship with the United States", reports Danish media.

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen confirms that Denmark and Greenland asked for a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as soon as possible.

- That we want it is because we feel that this discussion is based on misunderstandings about what is up and what is down, he says according to TV2.

Denmark assesses that it is Trump's own ambition to take Greenland, and that there is no broad political support for it in the United States, according to the minister.

The meeting was held without representatives from Greenland, which angered Greenlandic politicians.

- They are holding a historic meeting about us without us [...] It is a neo-colonialist way of excluding us, says Pipaluk Lynge, chairman of Greenland's foreign and security policy committee, to DR.

After Maduro – Medvedev wants to kidnap Merz

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says in an interview with Tass that Russia should kidnap German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, reports Berliner Zeitung.

The statement comes after the US attack on Venezuela and the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro. Medvedev tells Tass that, after the US actions, he can imagine similar operations targeting foreign leaders.

– The kidnapping of the neo-Nazi Merz could be an excellent turn in this carnival, he said, and at the same time meant that there are also reasons to prosecute him in Germany, according to Berliner Zeitung.

German government spokesman Sebastian Hille condemned the statement and said that “these provocations will not go unanswered”. At the same time, the German security apparatus does not take the threat any more seriously and sees no need to strengthen security around Merz.

US Venezuela attack  Oil market
Experts: Venezuela plan is devastating for the climate

Trump’s plan to implement his “drill, baby, drill” agenda in Venezuela and drill for the country’s huge oil reserves would be “terrible” for the climate, experts The Guardian has spoken to say.

US oil giants have so far kept their lid on potential Venezuela plans, but Trump’s plan is to invest billions in the country’s oil industry.

“If millions of new barrels of oil are produced every day, it would increase carbon dioxide emissions significantly, and the world’s population cannot afford that,” says John Sterman, a climate and economic researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Venezuela’s oil industry also causes additional emissions because the country’s crude oil is dense, sticky and dirty, which requires more refining.

Paramilitaries search for US friends in Venezuela: “They can kill us if we celebrate”

The Venezuelan government has arrested journalists and deployed paramilitary forces on the streets after the US abduction of President Nicolás Maduro, reports the Financial Times.

The paramilitaries, known as colectivos, are patrolling the streets of the capital Caracas. They are ready to intervene if anyone shows support for the US coup, something the government banned in a recently declared state of emergency. According to witnesses, the colectivos are searching through people’s mobile phones in search of anything that indicates they support the US.

The eastern parts of Caracas are usually seen as a strong stronghold for the country’s opposition. But there are no signs of joy, the newspaper writes.

– We cannot celebrate, says a woman who wishes to remain anonymous.

– If we celebrate, we could be killed by the colectivos.
