Trump's mysterious injury: Bleeding after a high-five
Published 23.12
He used compression stockings to reduce swelling.
Gets bruises and bleeds from all the medications.
And is advised by his staff to keep his eyes open during meetings.
- I'm in perfect condition, says Donald Trump, 79, to the Wall Street Journal.
The president may have himself to blame.
After all the years he has painted Joe Biden as a confused zombie who barely knows his name, it is now his own aging that is in focus.
After all the speculation about secret doctor visits, mysterious bruises and swellings and videos from meetings where he seemed to be in a deep sleep, Donald Trump speaks out about his health in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Talks about the mysterious pictures
He is now talking for the first time about his over-made bruises on his hands.
When pictures of this first spread, the White House claimed that it was because Trump shook so many people's hands all the time.
Trump says that it is rather because he takes a high preventive dose of aspirin daily to thin the blood and avoid cardiovascular disease.
And has done so for 25 years.
- I want nice, thin blood pumping around the heart. Does that sound reasonable? Trump tells WSJ.
Doctors have tried to get him to reduce the dose, which according to the WSJ is significantly higher than the usual one for preventive purposes.
Started bleeding from a high-five
– They would rather I took less. I take more and have done for years and that is what causes the bruises, Trump says.
The president's skin is so sensitive that he started bleeding after a high-five with Attorney General Pam Bondi when her ring scratched his hand.
The incident caused great concern in the staff, the newspaper writes.
According to people close to Trump, it was just one of many times that his hand started bleeding.
The president says he uses makeup when he has been "hit by someone."
– I have makeup that, you know, is easy to apply. It takes about ten seconds, he tells the WSJ.
Trump says aspirin makes him bruise easily.
Compression stockings tested
This summer, Donald Trump had a medical examination due to a “mild swelling in his shins”.
The examination showed that he has chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which the veins, usually in the legs, are unable to transport blood back to the heart effectively.
The condition is common among people over 75.
Trump used compression stockings to alleviate the discomfort, but not for long.
– I didn’t like them, he says.
However, the swelling has improved, according to Trump and his associates, because he started getting up from his desk sometimes and walking around a bit.
However, he is not interested in any form of exercise other than golf.
Relaxed by closing his eyes
– I don’t like it. It's boring, he says.
Donald Trump also says in the interview that he has "never been a big sleeper". He can often call or write to employees after 2 am.
On Air Force One during trips, people in the staff usually take turns keeping Trump company and sleep in shifts while the president holds a box with the person sitting next to him at the time.
Trump tells the WSJ that he has not slept at all in the videos that have been spread from various meetings where he has been caught closing his eyes for long periods while others have spoken.
- I just close my eyes. It's very relaxing for me, says the president about the speculation that he falls asleep during meetings.

Three burgers and fries
It has gotten so far that his staff have urged him to always keep his eyes open in public so that people don't get the wrong idea, according to a source to the WSJ.
Trump's chief of staff Susie Wiles has urged his ministers to keep their speeches short during cabinet meetings.
Much has also been written about the president's eating habits.
Top Republican Joe Gruters said in an interview last fall that he was "shocked" to see Donald Trump eat when they flew together to a campaign rally.
He then ate three hamburgers - a Big Mac, a Quarter Pounder and a fish burger - and fries.
Despite a lack of exercise, questionable eating habits and little sleep, Trump says he is full of energy - something he thanks his parents for.
- Genes are very important. And I have very good genes, he tells WSJ.
