Putin's promise to African countries: "Helps with grain and fuel"
Political and popular support for Russia and Kremlin-backed private armies such as the Wagner Group is growing increasingly in French-speaking African countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali and Cameroon. For the Kremlin, it is an important ally when the isolation from the West continues, writes SvD.
Alongside the high-profile summit with China's Xi Jinping, a smaller meeting was arranged earlier this week in Moscow where President Vladimir Putin spoke to politicians and diplomats from Africa.
- I want to emphasize that our country has always and will continue to prioritize cooperation with African states, Putin said, promising to help countries in crisis with grain, fuel and pesticides.
It has also been clear that many African countries have found it difficult to distance themselves from Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Out of 54 countries on the continent, 26 abstained from voting or voted blankly when the UN was to vote on condemning the war.

Prosecutors: Trump has created false expectation of arrest
Donald Trump has created a "false expectation" that he would be arrested. This is stated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a letter to three Republicans seen by Reuters.
According to the news agency, it is a response to politicians' demands to receive information about the investigation into Trump. Prosecutors accuse them of trying to interfere with the legal process after Trump's lawyers urged them to act.
