UN: New "El Niño" on the way - probably with heat records
The probability that the weather phenomenon El Niño will return during the year is increasing, reports The Guardian. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), there is a 60 percent probability of it happening before the end of June and an 80 percent probability before the end of September.
- It will change weather and climate patterns worldwide, says Wilfran Moufouma Okia at WMO.
The phenomenon occurs repeatedly, usually with an interval of between two and seven years. It is associated with rising temperatures and drought, and the WMO expects new heat records to be set when it re-occurs.

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran is said to have hijacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz
The US Navy says Iran has seized a Panama-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East, AP reports.
It is said to be Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard that took over the tank.
The U.S. Navy has released images showing about a dozen Guard boats surrounding the ship.
"Iran's actions are contrary to international law and disrupt regional security and stability," the navy wrote in a statement.
The Iranian news agency Tasnim, which is believed to have close ties to the Guard, also reports that the group took over a tanker and describes it as somehow breaking the law.

The mass shooting in Texas
New arrests in the Texas case - and more to come
Police have made additional arrests in the case where 38-year-old Texas resident Francisco Oropesa is suspected of shooting five of his neighbors to death, NBC News reports.
An exact number is not clear, but there are fewer than five arrests, the police say. The police also state that there will probably be more arrests in the near future.
Court documents show that a person with the same name as Oropesa's wife has been in custody since early Wednesday morning on suspicion of attempting to prevent an arrest. However, NBC does not establish that it is his wife.
Francisco Oropesa was arrested on Tuesday evening local time following a tip from the public.

The nurse wanted to "take care of babies" - stands accused of murdering seven children
British former nurse Lucy Letby, 33, is accused of murdering seven babies and attempted murder of ten more. The trial against her has been going on for six months, but yesterday she took the witness stand for the first time.
Letby said, among other things, that she "just wanted to take care of babies" and that her job at the hospital was "her life". She denied killing or harming children and said she is "devastated" by the allegations.
- I haven't slept, haven't eaten.
According to the prosecutor, the crimes were committed in 2015 and 2016. Letby allegedly injected air and poisoned the babies with insulin, among other things, according to the indictment.
She denies all 22 charges.
