UN envoy: Parties in Sudan ready to negotiate
The warring parties in Sudan are ready to negotiate, UN envoy Volker Perthes told AP. He says the war generals have agreed to send representatives for talks in Saudi Arabia.
According to Perthes, the negotiations should initially focus on achieving a "stable and reliable" ceasefire. According to the UN, the humanitarian situation in the country is approaching a breaking point.
Meanwhile, new fighting broke out between the regular army and the paramilitary RSF on Monday, despite an extended ceasefire agreement. Several aid organizations have had to pause aid efforts due to the difficult situation.

UN: The crisis in Sudan is heading towards a full-scale disaster
The humanitarian situation in Sudan is developing into a "full-scale disaster". This is what UN coordinator Abdou Dieng warns of, according to Reuters.
Dieng says that people have fled both to parts of the country that have not been hit as hard by the crisis and to Sudan's neighboring countries.
- There is a serious concern that the humanitarian crisis will spread in the region, he says.
The UN refugee agency UNCHR estimates that around 815,000 people may flee to the seven neighboring countries.
