Three months after the earthquake, several hundred families in the Syrian city of Idlib are living in houses that experts classify as uninhabitable. Ahmed Mazloum, the father of five, told Al Jazeera that there was no other choice but to stay.
He has made some efforts to strengthen the roof, so that it does not collapse, but the situation is still difficult.
- A couple of stones fall on us from time to time.
About 2,000 buildings collapsed and shortly after the earthquakes, another 4,000 were deemed uninhabitable.
Idlib sounds the alarm: The outside world's healthcare support is not enough
The crisis in an already hard-hit healthcare sector in war-torn Syria has become even worse after the earthquake three months ago, writes Al Jazeera.
42 health facilities were destroyed in the Idlib region in the northwestern parts of the country alone. In addition, many healthcare workers lost their lives and equipment stocks are now dwindling at a furious rate.
Among other things, there is a lack of X-ray machines and the support from the outside world is not enough, according to Zuhair al-Qurrat, the highest healthcare official in the opposition-controlled region.
- Right now we cannot treat cancer patients who were previously treated in Turkish hospitals. The same applies to heart patients in need of surgery.
