Largest support for Erdogan when 99 percent of the votes have been counted - new round awaits
Recep Tayyip Erdogan receives the largest voter support in the Turkish presidential election when 99 percent of the votes are counted. A second round of elections is expected on May 28, according to the country's electoral authority, according to Reuters.
According to the authorities, Erdogan received 49.4 percent of the vote, while rival and challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu landed on 44.96 percent.
Neither of the two main candidates thus reached the threshold of 50 percent, which is required to win the election already in the first round.
The third candidate, Sinan Ogan, received 5.2 percent of voter support.
