Trump critic Christie is running in the primary
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has filed documents showing he plans to run for the Republican presidential nomination, US media reports.
He is expected to announce his candidacy in New Hampshire in the evening, American time, according to Fox News.
Christie has gone from being an ally of Donald Trump to becoming one of the ex-president's main critics within the party. But the paper notes that it is not yet certain whether Christie will actually be allowed to challenge Trump in the major primary debates, as he must first gather the many campaign donors required to qualify.
