The change of leadership in NATO
Speculation surrounding Frederiksen's visit to the USA - will she become the new NATO boss?
On Monday, US President Joe Biden welcomed Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to the White House.
- Together we work to protect our shared values, including standing up for the people of Ukraine against the Russians' brutal aggression, Biden said in connection with the meeting according to AP.
The Danish visit to the USA has aroused curiosity, writes CNN. Frederiksen has been singled out as a potential successor to Jens Stoltenberg, who is expected to leave the post as NATO Secretary General later this year. It is now speculated whether the meeting in the White House is in fact an opportunity for Biden to inform about what the role entails.
Frederiksen refutes the rumours.
- I have previously said that I am not a candidate for any other job than the one I have now, and this has not changed after my meeting with the President of the United States, she says.

Ukrainians have been trained by NATO to lead counteroffensives
For almost a year, Ukrainian brigades have been trained abroad by NATO to lead the counteroffensive, writes the Washington Post.
In addition to the soldiers being trained in how weapons and equipment should be used, the focus has been on how they should act together in different units, says military expert Johan Huovinen to DN. In simulators, the soldiers have been faced with various situations that may await them at the front.
- It will be the first time we see soldiers with training and weapons from NATO compete with the Russian military, says Huovinen.
Poland takes Ukraine's side in the NATO issue: "Deserves it"
Poland wants Ukraine to join NATO in a "very fast" process. This is what Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki says to the Canadian CBC during a visit to the country.
- Even though Ukraine is not in NATO today, they are fighting on behalf of NATO, they are fighting in the interests of NATO, they are fighting for NATO in the sense that they are defending us from this brutal Russian advance that could endanger many other NATO countries.
Morawiecki hopes that Ukraine's accession will be an important issue at the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, although he notes that many other countries disagree.
