Sunak's move against AI threats: Global authority in London
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is considering setting up a global AI authority in London to address the threats to humanity that the technology could pose, The Times reports.
During a meeting with US President Joe Biden next week, Sunak is expected to present the proposal.
The authority would have the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency, as a model. It's an arrangement that Open AI manager Sam Altman suggested earlier.

Researchers: AI alarms spread disproportionate fear
Leading
AI developers warn that in the future the technology could wipe out humans. But the alarm reports warn of the wrong things, according to researchers that TT has spoken to. Virginia Dignum, professor of responsible AI at Umeå University, thinks that the power players – who drive the development themselves – are spreading unnecessary fear.
- If they are really worried about the development, they only need to look at themselves in the mirror. It's easy to scare people. I think they need to take responsibility instead.
Daniel Gillblad, head of research at the national research center AI Sweden, shares that picture.
- It is clear that we should be careful, but I become a little skeptical when they mix in such clear threats, says Gillblad.

Expert: Horrible little Nazis can contribute to AI development
Artificial intelligence poses a threat to national security because it has the ability to convince people to carry out terrorist attacks. This is the opinion of Jonathan Hall, who is a special adviser to the UK government on terrorism legislation, writes The Guardian.
The tech companies that develop AI must therefore not become too utopian, but must constantly take into account how terrorists could use their products, Hall thinks.
- They must have some horrible little 15-year-old neo-Nazi in the room with them, and figure out what they can do. You have to prepare the defense against things that you know people will do.
Hall is particularly concerned about AI's ability to persuade vulnerable minors, who already pose a growing security threat today. He compares it to social media, which has become an important platform for recruitment to terrorist organizations.
