Expert on Russian defense in Ukraine: "Very odd"
Russia has made a surprising departure from its usual way of establishing defense lines, says Jörgen Elfving, an expert on Russian military tactics, to SVT Nyheter.
The usual military tactical method – both in Russia and in the West – is to establish resistance nests similar to small islands.
In occupied Ukraine, however, the Russian army has now begun to dig in a straight defensive line, making it more difficult to recover lost ground and face attackers.
- This that has now been developed on the Russian side is very odd, says Elfving.
His theory is that it is the simplicity itself that can be the explanation - "it's basically just shoveling up a ditch".

Russia: Repelled Ukrainian "invasion" in Belgorod
Russia claims to have repelled a Ukrainian attempt to "invade" the Russian border region of Belgorod, writes AFP.
According to Russia's Ministry of Defense, it involved two units of motorized infantry, supported by tanks. Putin is said to be continuously informed about the situation in the region.
Unrest has recently rocked the area, but much of the information from the ground is difficult to verify.
Among other things, Putin-critical militia groups have carried out armed attacks. This morning, the governor of the region stated that eight people were injured in Ukrainian shelling against the city of Shebekino, something that has not been able to be confirmed. The information has not been commented on by Ukraine either.

Mother and nine-year-old daughter died - information that the shelter was locked
A nine-year-old girl, her mother and another woman died when they were hit by debris from a downed robot during a Russian attack on Kyiv on Thursday night.
Now Ukrainian authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, several media reports. There are reports that they were unable to enter a shelter because it was locked.
- My wife took our daughter with her and they ran to the entrance, which was closed. There were maybe five to ten women with children already in there, none of them opened the door. They knocked loud enough, local resident Jaroslav Ryabtjuk told Reuters.
A criminal investigation has been launched, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko.
"Now the investigation must show whether the shelter was open. Were there people in there?” he writes on Telegram.

All shelters are inspected in Lviv: "It must be done"
All shelters in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine are to be inspected after three people died on the outskirts of Kyiv during the night's Russian attack. Lviv's mayor Andriy Sadovyi announced it, according to The Guardian.

“This evening we shall devote to our safety. It will be an evening of open shelters, discussions, meetings - call it what you want, but it has to be done," he writes.
Among other things, those responsible for the shelters must review accessibility and ensure that all information is up-to-date and visible.

Experts: Suspect Moscow drone was Ukrainian
A drone that was captured on video during the attack on Moscow on Tuesday baffles two experts contacted by SVT Nyheter.
"The
drone in the videos is unlike any I have seen before, which indicates
that it may be a new system developed by Ukraine," writes James Patton
Rogers, a drone expert at Danish SDU and American Cornell.
According
to David Hambling, a journalist and author who has covered drones for
years, there are similarities to a newly developed Ukrainian drone type
that has not yet been seen in combat.
Russia accuses Ukraine, which denies involvement. According to Russian authorities, eight drones were shot down in the attack, which led to minor material damage.
