A video clip has spread on social media over the past 24 hours in which Polish volunteer soldiers are seen unloading weapons from an armored vehicle.
SVT Nyheter has been able to geolocate the video to the village of Glotovo outside the city of Grajvoron in the Russian region of Belgorod. It is not possible to verify the date it was filmed, but it could possibly be from an earlier raid on May 22, according to SVT.
In the video clip that has now spread, the Polish volunteer unit is said to be in a post office which they allegedly seized as proof of their presence in Russia. The corps' Telegram channel has also confirmed that they participated in raids in the Russian Belgorod region.
Their presence has also been confirmed by the Russian anti-Putin volunteer corps inside Russia, which claimed responsibility for carrying out attacks in the Russian region, according to CNN.
Holds the Swedish coat of arms
One of the weapons that the soldiers in the video clip are seen holding is the Swedish armored personnel carrier 86, of which Sweden donated 5,000 to Ukraine.
It has also featured video footage of American vehicles inside Russian Belgorod.
According to Magnus Christiansson, senior lecturer in war science at the Norwegian Defense Academy (FHS), it is remarkable.
- This has sparked a discussion, especially in the US, about Ukraine's control over and ability to keep track of its equipment that the West gave to Ukraine, says Magnus Christiansson.
The West has already crossed a red line for Russia for the arms deliveries given to Ukraine and the warfare is fundamentally based on a confrontation with the West.
- I don't think Russia is that surprised that these weapons are being used because they were donated by the West to Ukraine, but it does create a discussion about how Ukraine uses the weapons they received and reasonably raises questions about whether it is wise to donate additional weapons when you see how the resources are used, says Magnus Christiansson.
