Texas is being sued - deployed barrier against migrants
The US Justice Department is suing Texas Governor Greg Abbott after the state deployed a floating barrier in the Rio Grande River to stop migrants. This is reported by AP.
The 300 meter long barrier consists of a chain of large, orange buoys. According to President Biden's administration, it is problematic both from a human rights and environmental point of view. Authorities in Texas also allegedly posted it without permission.
In a letter to Biden on Monday, Abbott defends the decision. He, in turn, accuses Biden of putting migrants at risk by not doing more to deter them from trying to enter the United States.
