EU agrees on frozen Russian assets to Ukraine
The leaders of the EU countries have "in principle" agreed to take a "large part" of the return on frozen Russian assets and give it to Ukraine, writes The Guardian.
The proposal could give Ukraine three billion euros this year, and the first billion could be in Ukraine's hands as soon as July, says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The agreement comes after almost a year of negotiations.
In the past, Hungary has been skeptical of the proposal as they did not want the money to go to "arming" Ukraine. But after adjusting the wording, Hungary also joined the agreement, writes The Guardian.

The EU proposes heavy tariffs on Russian grain
The European Commission proposes import duties on grain from Russia and Belarus. The aim is, among other things, to reduce Russia's income and, by extension, the country's ability to continue its war of aggression in Ukraine. The commission writes this in a series of posts on X.
- [The tariffs] will reduce Russia's capacity to exploit the EU in favor of their war machine, says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, according to The Guardian.
TT writes that the proposal comes after growing irritation that the Russian import of grain is allowed to continue, despite a host of other sanctions.
- If my information is correct, Russia is the third largest supplier of agricultural products to the European market, says Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, according to the news agency.

Billström: Russia's war has been going on for over ten yearsThat Russia now admits that it is at war is a clear example of Moscow changing its wording when it suits Russia's agenda. This is what Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) tells TT and at the same time states that the most important lesson is that you cannot trust a word that comes from the Kremlin.
Russia's war already started with the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, he continues. He sees the fact that the Kremlin is now changing its rhetoric about Ukraine from "military special operation" to "war" as a sign that Vladimir Putin is preparing for a long-term war.
- Russia's appetite will not decrease unless it suffers a strategic defeat in Ukraine and Ukraine wins the war.
Russia admits: "We are at war"
Russia admits for the first time since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine officially began that it is a country at war, several media reports.
- We are at war. Yes, it started as a military special operation, but as soon as the collective West became a participant on Ukraine's side, it also became a war for us, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Argumenty Fakty magazine.
In the past, the official line has been to call the war in Ukraine precisely a "military special operation". Russians who have called the war a war have been prosecuted.
Putin himself used the word "war" about the conflict in Ukraine as early as 2022.
