The violence has paralyzed Haiti - everything is closed
The heavily armed gangs in Haiti are estimated to control around 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince. According to a calculation from the UN, AP writes.
The violence has escalated in recent weeks and after the storming of the city's largest prison, the government has declared a national emergency.
Today, everything is closed and the city has turned from a war zone into a ghost town, writes AFP.

State of emergency in Haiti after the prison storm
Haiti's government has declared a nocturnal state of emergency after the recent unrest, several media reports.
"The police have been ordered to use all available legal means at their disposal to ensure that the curfew is enforced and that the culprits are apprehended," Finance Minister Patrick Boivert said in a statement.
Last Saturday, two prisons in the capital Port-au-Prince were stormed, and around 4,000 prisoners are estimated to have been freed. According to AFP, at least a dozen people have been killed.
Prime Minister Ariel Henry is currently in Kenya to discuss a Kenya-led international police force to be deployed in Haiti.
