Tories' gambling scandal grows - high-ranking manager investigated
Another
person within the Conservative Party has been drawn into the gambling
scandal that is shaking British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in the
election campaign. The party's head of data analysis, Nick Mason, has
now been removed from office, the Sunday Times reports.
Mason is
suspected of betting several times that the parliamentary election would
take place in July before Sunak announced the election date. The stakes
were small, but as the odds were around four times the money, Mason is
believed to have made several thousand pounds.
A spokesperson says Mason denies the allegations.
The
ongoing gambling scandal now includes four people in the circle around
Sunak. Minister Michael Gove told the paper that the tangle gives the
impression that politicians have one piece of legislation, and ordinary
people another.
- It was harmful at the time of partygate and it is harmful now.

No Sunak at conservative event: "Has raised white flag"
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appears to have given up hope of a July 4 election victory. This is written by The Independent based on testimony from an event for contributors at an exclusive address in London this week.
The Conservative Party is said to have basically run out of campaign money and Sunak did not appear, leaving only a video message to the participants. An auction was organized with the promise that Sunak would sign items before election day. Participants were assured that it would come from a "sitting prime minister".
It is said in terms that Sunak has "raised the white flag" even though he himself says he has hope of reversing the weak opinion figures.
