37 percent in Australia do not believe in climate change
In recent years, Australia has been hit by extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, heat waves and huge forest fires. The scientists agree that human influence on the climate is behind the weather phenomena, but the Australians are not.
A new study that The Guardian reports on shows that 63 percent of the country's inhabitants believe that humans are behind the changing climate. The global average is 73 percent.
Polly Hemming, who leads the climate work at a progressive think tank in Australia, says that none of the major parties in the country are signaling any urgency about the climate, which may explain the figure.

Twice as many extreme forest fires in 20 years
In the last 20 years, the most serious forest fires have more than doubled in both intensity and frequency. It appears in a new study from the University of Tasmania that AFP reports on.
It is the first study in which scientists have been able to monitor the global trend of the most devastating forest fires. Between 2003 and 2023, forest fires have increased by a factor of 2.2.
- I expected an increase, but this rate worries me, says Calum Cunningham, who is behind the study.
