More expect a strong debate effort from Trump
More voters expect a strong performance from Donald Trump than from Joe Biden in tonight's debate. This is according to a new opinion poll from the New York Times.
60 percent of the polled voters answer that they think Trump will do a "very" or "fairly" good job. The same percentage for Biden is 46 percent.
The debate is the first between the two presidential candidates since the 2020 election campaign.
Much at stake for Biden and Trump tonight: "Sets the tone"
Tonight, Joe Biden and Donald Trump face off in the first of two scheduled debates ahead of the November presidential election, and several media outlets are going over what viewers can expect.
........................................
Fox News notes that much is at stake for both candidates.
- This clash will set the tone and narrative for this summer's convention, says Matt Gorman, who has long worked as a strategist and communications advisor for the Republicans.
Foreign policy may very well be the focus of the debate, which does not necessarily favor Biden, according to NBC News. Lewis Lukens, a longtime diplomat and adviser, tells the television channel that Trump can easily point to the fact that both the war in Ukraine and in Gaza broke out during Biden's time in power. His advice to Biden would still be to press that the world would become even more unstable with Trump in power.
- The challenge is that Trump can only say: "Look at the evidence: You are wrong", he continues.
