Ukraine sounds the alarm: The country's energy sector is on its knees
The Ukrainian electricity supply is hit hard by Russia's attacks on the country's infrastructure. Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, head of Ukraine's state energy company Ukrenergo, is now warning again that the energy deficit is having serious consequences in the country.
- Even in summer, when we have 40 to 45 percent lower consumption than in winter, we have an energy deficit that cannot be covered by importing electricity from Europe, he says according to the Kyiv Post.
Dmytro Sakharuk, CEO of the Ukrainian electricity company DTEK, points to the lack of anti-aircraft systems as a contributing factor to a reduced electricity supply. Even if Ukraine succeeds in repairing damaged infrastructure, there are limited opportunities to protect it.
