Survey: The debate not decisive for voters
The vast majority of American voters have not changed their opinion after last night's debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. This is shown by a recent survey by CNN. 81 percent of those questioned do not see the presidential candidates' efforts as decisive for how they intend to vote in November.
However, trust in Biden has been affected to some extent. Before the debate, 37 percent stated that they viewed the president favorably. After the debate, that figure was 31 percent. Trump fared better, rising from 40 to 43 percent.
Despite the dissatisfaction of the voters and the widespread criticism of political analysts and party members, Joe Biden seems to be satisfied with his debate performance.
- I think we did well, Biden told reporters according to AFP.

Dirt-throwing and lies in the first duel - Trump blames Putin's war on Biden
Joe Biden and Donald Trump refrained from shaking hands when they took the stage to open the first presidential debate before the fall election.
Biden, who spoke slowly and with a hoarse voice, stumbled over the words on several occasions while Trump resorted to several lies to attack his opponent, writes Reuters. He claimed, among other things, that Biden neglected to secure the southern border and let "terrorists and murderers" into the country.
- I call it Biden's migrant crime, Trump said.
- Once again he exaggerates, he lies, Biden replied.
In addition to immigration, the US economy and abortion rights were in focus during the first hour of the debate. Biden was quick to criticize Trump for the "chaos" the US economy was in when he took office four years ago. He also accused Trump of eroding abortion rights and vowed to restore the gutted Roe v. Wade ruling if elected to a second term.
"It was a terrible thing you did," Biden said, referring to the appointment of several conservative justices to the Supreme Court.
When the debate turned to foreign policy, Trump claimed that the war in Ukraine would never have happened if he had been president.
- If we had a real president, who was respected by Putin, he would never have invaded Ukraine, Trump said.

Trump: Will accept the election if it's fair
President Joe Biden says he doubts his challenger Donald Trump will accept a possible defeat in the election. During the night's debate, he accused Trump of encouraging his supporters to storm the Capitol in connection with the 2020 election.
Trump neither denied the accusations nor apologized, AP writes.
- On January 6, we were respected all over the world, all over the world we were respected. And then he (Biden) came and now they laugh at us, Trump said.
In the same vein, Trump said that he will only accept the election in November if it was a "fair and legal" election.
