Analysis: If Joe Biden is even understandable, he can win the debate
Donald Trump and Joe Biden will meet on the night of Friday, Swedish time, in a televised debate in front of a nation that is actually quite disgusted with both of them. That's what The Globe and Mail's David Shirbman writes in an analysis.
"Voters' impatience with the two candidates and their disappointment at having to choose between them in November could mean viewers are looking for reasons to opt out - rather than support - one of the contestants."
ABC News' Tal Axelrod agrees that expectations for both candidates are very low, but that the Trump campaign's focus on Biden's age and mental abilities has made it easy for him to appear more sensible than expected.
"The bar for Biden is so low that if his message even comes across as comprehensible, it would exceed expectations."

Clinton warns: Cannot argue against Trump
On the night of Friday, Swedish time, Joe Biden and Donald Trump meet in the American presidential election's first televised debate between the two candidates.
Now former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, is warning about his debate technique.
"It is a waste of time to try to refute Trump's arguments as in a normal debate. It is almost impossible to even identify what his arguments actually are,” Clinton writes in a column in the New York Times.
She believes that the low expectations for Trump make him a dangerous opponent - if he doesn't "literally set himself on fire" he will appear presidential-like in the eyes of some.

Setbacks for progressives and Trump in congressional primaries
Trump-backed Republicans and progressive Democrats had a bad day as this fall's US congressional primaries took place in Colorado, New York, South Carolina and Utah, The Hill notes.
In New York, Jamaal Bowman lost to George Latimer in his district. Bowman belongs to the progressive group within the Democrats that is sometimes called "The squad", which includes, among others, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. The primary election has been seen in advance as a litmus test for the division that the Israel-Hamas war has created within the Democrats.
On the Republican side, three candidates supported by Donald Trump were defeated. One of them was Trent Staggs, who lost to Trump critic John Curtis in the race for outgoing Mitt Romney's senatorial seat.
