Explosively loaded ship
Ship site: MV Ruby has docked in UK port

The much-hyped vessel MV Ruby is to be reloaded in the British port of Great Yarmouth. This is what the shipping company says in a statement to GP.

On the MarineTraffic site, it now appears that the MV Ruby has docked in the port of Great Yarmouth, in eastern Britain just south of Norwich.

In Great Yarmouth, Ruby's cargo of 20 000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate is to be transferred to another vessel. Next, Ruby will head to a dry dock for necessary repairs. The ship's hull, propellers and rudder are damaged and Ruby is unable to make her way on her own.

The climate threat  The global challenges
Scientists warn that the Gulf Stream may collapse

The risk of the Gulf Stream collapsing has been underestimated, and in that case it could lead to a climate disaster for Sweden. That's what 48 researchers write in an open letter to the government, Dagens Nyheter reports.

Off the southern tip of Greenland is a place called "the cold blob" which is one of the few places on Earth that has not warmed in decades. Instead, it has been cooled by large amounts of meltwater from the ice in the area. The meltwater now risks disrupting one of the three major circulation systems in the world's oceans - AMOC - which includes the Gulf Stream.

- It is remarkable that political leaders in Scandinavia do not take this seriously, it determines whether we can have modern welfare states in the Nordics at all, says Johan Rockström, professor of earth system theory and director of the climate research institute Potsdam in Germany, to DN.

Rockström is one of the researchers who signed the letter. He states that the probability of the Gulf Stream collapsing is still small - but just the fact that research cannot rule out a collapse should be enough to act forcefully.
