Putin: The nuclear forces will conduct exercises
Russian President Vladimir Putin announces that the country's nuclear forces will conduct exercises today, Tuesday. The country's military commanders must, among other things, "review the control" of nuclear weapons and cruise robots, writes Reuters.
- Today we are carrying out further exercises of strategic nuclear forces, says Vladimir Putin in a clip shared by the Kremlin.
The president states that Russia "will not be part of any arms race", but that Russia must have its nuclear forces ready.
Since the war in Ukraine began, Putin and the Kremlin have threatened nuclear weapons in the hope of reducing the world's support for Ukraine, AP writes. Earlier this year, a nuclear weapons exercise was organized together with ally Belarus.

"10,000 North Koreans may be deployed in the coming weeks"
North Korea has sent around 10,000 soldiers to Russia who are currently being trained to be deployed in the war against Ukraine "in the coming weeks". That's what Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh says, according to AP.
- If we see North Korean troops moving towards the front lines, then they are belligerents. That's a consideration North Korea has to make, Singh said.
She stressed that there are no restrictions on Ukraine's use of US weapons against the North Korean forces.
Due to the development of events, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Foreign Minister Antony Blinken are to meet their South Korean counterparts later this week in Washington DC.
