Allegations of corruption in EPP top election campaign
Belgian police and the European Union's prosecutorial cooperation EPPO are investigating fraud and corruption offenses linked to the leader of the EPP party group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, Politico reports.
According to the site's sources, three people are being investigated, two of whom have held high-ranking positions in the German leader's election campaign in 2019. The investigation concerns whether tax-financed money from the party group was used for campaigning in violation of the rules.
Documents show that several people have been summoned for questioning on suspected fraud, corruption and "falsification of public documents".

Police to investigate alleged Philippine 'death squad'
Philippine police have opened an investigation after ex-president Rodrigo Duterte admitted in a Senate hearing that during his time as mayor of Davao there was a "death squad" in the fight against criminals, writes Reuters.
A police spokesperson says that past drug dealing deaths are to be reviewed to find possible links to the alleged 'death squad'.
In the hearing, Duterte did not give clear answers on who was part of the group. At one point he said it was made up of police officers, only to later say it was about criminals.
- If we find cases that show police involvement, no one will be spared, says the spokesperson.

The Canada-India relationship
Modi's allies are singled out for acts of violence against Sikhs
The Canadian government accuses India's interior minister Amit Shah of being behind attacks on Sikhs on Canadian soil, writes Bloomberg. One of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's security advisers says he has obtained evidence linking Indian agents and diplomats to several crimes, including extortion and murder.
Shah is very close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has been mentioned as a possible successor. India has yet to comment on the allegation but has consistently denied involvement.
Canada and India are in a diplomatic crisis after Trudeau, just over a year ago, accused India of being behind the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
