Israel's parliament approves law banning UNRWA
Israel's parliament has voted through a law that prohibits the UN aid organization for Palestine refugees, UNRWA, from operating in the country in any way. This is reported by several media.
The organization's communications director, Juliette Touma, says the law, if implemented, spells disaster for people in Gaza.
- UNRWA is the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza. Who will do the work?
The law has been criticized by international aid organizations and by several of Israel's allied countries in the West.
The background to the vote is, among other things, Israel's accusations that Unrwa employees participated in the Hamas attack last year.
