After the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the World Series, ecstatic fans took to the streets of the city.
But the celebration derailed with vandalism, theft and violence against the police.
The Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 4–1 in games to capture their eighth titel. But the joy turned to chaos in Los Angeles.
The LA Times newspaper reports on a celebration that at first consisted of fireworks and carols. Somewhere the mood changed in some parts of the city.
Several businesses were broken into or vandalized and police report that some in the crowd were hostile and threw objects at officers.
Bus was set on fire
A video circulating online is said to show people stealing from a Nike store on Broadway. In addition, one of the city's buses was set on fire at Echo Park in the central parts of the city.
The LA Times writes that several arrests were made during the riot, but that all the details have not been investigated yet.
The Dodgers' title should have been celebrated over a large part of the million-dollar city, where in most places it happened without incident.
There have been disturbances in the city in the past also in connection with the celebrations. Both when the Dodgers won the baseball championship, but also when the Lakers won the NBA.
