Votes destroyed by fire: "direct attack on democracy"

Hundreds of submitted votes have been lost in the states of Oregon and Washington after fires started in ballot boxes early Monday morning US time. NBC News reports.

According to police in Portland, Oregon, some type of "incendiary device" had been placed in at least one of the affected ballot boxes.

It is unclear if the incidents are connected.

Greg Kimsey of the election authority in Vancouver, Washington, told the AP that the incident is "devastating."

- It is a direct attack on democracy.

Report: Domestic extremism a threat to US elections

Domestic extremists who believe in conspiracy theories are singled out as a threat to US elections by the Secret Service. That's what NBC News writes.

NBC News has received a report from several intelligence services. In it, FBI and Homeland Security agents warn local police that domestic extremists may try to terrorize and disrupt voting. You see a threatening picture from election day until a new president is sworn in.

Candidates, politicians, election workers, media and judges involved in the electoral process are potential targets, according to the report. There is a risk of violence at polling stations, places where voters register and campaign meetings.

The FBI and Homeland Security have previously issued similar warnings that were public. In a report earlier in October, they also addressed the assassination attempts against Donald Trump and wrote that "threat actors can seek out individuals at their homes and other non-public places".

Musk's million lottery is being sued in the state: "Illegal"

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner wants to stop Elon Musk and his organization America PAC from giving away a million dollars to Republican voters in the wave master state of Pennsylvania, reports CNBC.

Krasner has issued a lawsuit against what he calls "an unquestionably illegal lottery" and a threat to the integrity of the presidential election.

According to the lawsuit, the lottery violates state consumer protection laws by "distributing misleading and vague statements that create confusion or misunderstanding." In addition, all lotteries in Pennsylvania must be regulated by the state, according to the lawsuit.

The US Department of Justice has previously warned Musk that the sweepstakes could violate federal law.

Analysis: 'Intoxicated sense of vulnerability' could lead to Trump becoming president

The "rushing sense of vulnerability" that Trump's voters feel may well cause Trump to win the US presidential election next week. That's what DN's Björn af Kleen writes in an analysis.

Trump supporters' happiness and shouting of chants seemed to increase the more the liberal New Yorkers were horrified, writes af Kleen.

In an opinion piece in the New York Post, Miranda Devine also mentions the exclusion. The famous names that are now hanging around Trump are his own "maladapted mutants". Like the movie and comic book heroes of the X-men, Elon Musk, Robert F Kennedy Jr, Tulsi Gabbard and JD Vance are geniuses with different abilities. The enemy: "The deep state, censorship, surveillance and war," writes Miranda Devine.

According to CNN's Stephen Collinson, Trump's speech was filled to the brim with lies and exaggerations. Exactly the rhetoric that Democrats hope will sway centrist voters to vote for Kamala Harris.

But it's also a gamble by Trump that could lead to him mobilizing many voters - and also reaching people who don't usually vote.
