Greenland's future

Trump: Greenland is Maga - will be ours

Donald Trump Jr. is not in Greenland as part of an attempt to buy the territory from Denmark, but as a tourist, he says, according to the Norwegian Aftenposten.

- We would like to meet the people because it seems like a great place, so we expect to go there and say hello and maybe take some videos, he says in his podcast "Triggered".

The tone sounds different from his father Donald Trump. In a post on his platform Truth Social, the future president writes that he "heard that the Greenlandic people are Maga", and shares a clip of a Greenlandic supporter - a convicted drug smuggler, according to the Danish DR.

"Greenland is a great place, and the people will benefit enormously if, and when, it becomes part of our nation [...] MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!" Trump writes.

In another post, he adds: "This is a deal that must be done."

Frederiksen to Trump: Greenland is not for sale

Greenland's desire for independence is completely legitimate, but selling Greenland to the US is not an option. This is what Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told TV2.

– Greenland is not for sale.

She says that it is important that Greenland's future is defined by the Greenlanders, and not by Washington or Copenhagen. However, she currently has no plans for any drastic changes on the issue.

– There is no request from the Greenlanders right now for independence. But there is no doubt that it is moving in that direction.

Her statements come at a time when the incoming US president is claiming to buy Greenland from Denmark. His son, Donald Trump Jr, landed in Nuuk, Greenland on Tuesday afternoon.
