Political crisis in South Korea

Short breather for Yoon – new arrest warrant

Hours after the arrest warrant for South Korean President Yoon Seok-Yeol expired, a court in Seoul issued another arrest warrant. This time without disclosing how long it is valid.

However, according to Yonhap, it is likely that this warrant will be valid for longer than the usual seven days, given the difficulties in arresting Yoon. The suspended president has been protected by his security team. In addition, the many supporters outside Yoon's residence have made the arrest more difficult.

Now the anti-corruption agency CIO is getting a new attempt. Earlier today, the head of the CIO stated that it is assumed that the second attempt will also be the last, writes The Chosun Ilbo.

The president escaped – the responsible manager “devastated”

South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol could not be arrested and now the arrest warrant has expired. The head of the anti-corruption agency CIO apologizes "sincerely" to the people, South Korean media reports.

Oh Dong-Woon also added that he is "devastated" and "very sorry", and that he takes "full responsibility".

But that was not enough for the committee's chairman Chung Cheong-Rae.

"I do not feel the sincerity of the apology," he said, according to the country's largest newspaper The Chosun Ilbo.

The head of the agency then added that they prepared carefully, but promised to prepare even more carefully next time. Now the agency has applied for a new arrest warrant to try to arrest Yoon again.
