Scholz: "I'm tired of violent acts every other week"
The suspected perpetrator behind the stabbing attack in Germany had a history of crime and mental illness, German media report. His asylum application had been rejected and he should have already left the country, according to information to Welt.
Now Chancellor Olaf Scholz is demanding answers from the authorities as to why the man, who is an Afghan citizen, was even in Germany.
"I'm tired of violent acts every other week with perpetrators who have come here to seek protection," he writes on X, promising "immediate consequences."
A child and an adult were stabbed to death in the stabbing attack in the southern German city of Aschaffenburg on Wednesday, Bild reports. A child and an adult are also being treated in hospital with serious injuries.
According to unconfirmed reports, the perpetrator attacked a preschool group. Two people were seriously injured, including a child who is being treated in hospital.
