Political crisis in South Korea
South Korean president denies crimes – “Believe in free democracy”

South Korea’s suspended President Yoon Suk-yeol denies ordering the military to drag politicians out of parliament during his short-lived attempt to impose a state of emergency in the country, Reuters reports.

Yoon was questioned on Tuesday at the Constitutional Court as part of the impeachment trial he faces.

“Since I grew up, I have lived with a firm belief in free democracy, especially during my time in public life,” Yoon said as the hearing began, according to Bloomberg.

Yoon was detained last week and has so far refused to attend court.

About 4,000 police officers were outside the courthouse when the hearings took place.

The suspended president is suspected of rebellion and abuse of power in connection with his imposition of a temporary state of military emergency in December.

Greenland's future
Danish response: No country can take over Greenland

In connection with Donald Trump signing the first presidential orders of his term, he also spoke out about plans for the US to take control of Greenland.

– Greenland is a sub-place. We need it to maintain international security. I am sure that Denmark will straighten out. It costs them a lot of money to maintain Greenland, he said, according to DR.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen notes that the rhetoric is reminiscent of Trump's earlier this year.

– We cannot have a world order where countries, if they are big enough, just take over and do as they please.

In a debate in the EU Parliament, Anders Vistesen of the Danish People's Party touched on the same topic:

– Let me put it in a way that you understand, Mr. Trump: Fuck off, he said, according to Expressen.
