Elon Musk is causing confusion after changing his name and profile picture on X.

There is now speculation on the internet about the change.

Among other things, the new profile picture is being linked to far-right groups.

Elon Musk is now called "Kekius Maximus" - at least on his own platform X.

The profile picture shows the character Pepe the Frog.

Musk himself has not given any explanation for the name – and the change of picture.

But there are theories, according to the New York Post.

The far-right connection

Among other things, it is believed that it may be a tribute to far-right groups – as the frog has been used as a symbol in these.

In addition to the profile picture, the name can also be linked to the far-right. According to the BBC, Kekius is probably a Latinization of the word "kek" that has been popularized by gamers and is now used within the far-right environment. Kek means roughly "to laugh out loud".

A slightly more far-fetched theory is that the name and image are a nod to the ancient Egyptian god of darkness, Kek, who is sometimes depicted with a frog's head.

The cryptocurrency soared

It could also be a hint at a video game, or to a cryptocurrency also called Kekius Maximus. The cryptocurrency with the same name has soared in value after the change, according to the BBC.
