Armed attack on the presidential palace in Chad

Unrest broke out in the Chadian capital N'Djamena on Wednesday evening, according to sources to AFP and Reuters.

Witnesses reported that shots were heard near the presidential palace and that several military vehicles were seen in the streets.

A security source to Reuters describes it as a suspected terrorist attack.

– Individuals in three vehicles attacked military camps around the president's office, but the army neutralized them.

The government and the military state that calm has been restored.

Government: Everything is under control – no danger

The Chadian government and military say they have the situation under control after the armed attack at the presidential palace in the capital N’Djamena on Wednesday evening, writes Reuters.

– It was a small incident, everything is calm. This destabilization attempt has been thwarted, government spokesman Abderaman Koulamallah said in a clip on Facebook, surrounded by soldiers.

Residents in the area previously said they had heard “intense gunfire” and seen military vehicles driving around the Place de la Nation in the city center, where the presidential headquarters are located.
