An excited Elon Musk spoke to Trump supporters in Washington DC.

But a gesture he made has received greater reactions than his words.

Many users on social media think it resembles a Hitler salute.

Elon Musk appeared at the Capitol One Arena where Trump supporters gathered to follow the presidential inauguration.

– Some elections are not important, but this election was really important. And I just want to thank you for making it possible, Musk said.

Then he hit his chest with his right hand and then stretched out his arm with his hand open.

Spread on social media

CNN’s hosts were clearly stunned by the “strange greeting.”

– It was very reminiscent of things we’ve seen throughout history, says Kasie Hunt.

– It happened quickly. Our viewers are smart and can take a closer look themselves. But it's not something we usually see at political meetings in the US.

The clip has spread quickly on social media. Several people are wondering if Musk made a Nazi salute.

At the same time, others believe that it was a gesture to show his gratitude from the heart.

Sharing the speech

The Tesla founder himself has shared his entire speech on X from the Fox News broadcast – but they have chosen to cut in images of the audience just when Musk makes his gesture.

Elon Musk has not commented on the gesture himself.

In his speech, Musk thanked the supporters and said that it is "thanks to them that the future of civilization is secured".

He also spoke about one of his favorite topics, space.

- We are going to take "Doge" to Mars, he said.

Doge is the abbreviation for "Department of Government Efficiency", the department that Trump invented and now lets Musk lead.

– Can you imagine how amazing it will be to have American astronauts plant the flag on another planet for the first time?

Musk has been a frequent supporter of Trump throughout the election campaign, and has been one of the big names in the campaign.
