Russian Invasion

Ukraine's response
Lukashenko's anger after Zelensky's words in the podcast: "What is he talking about?"

Belarusian dictator Aleksandr Lukashenko has commented on Ukrainian President Zelensky's words about Belarus' actions at the beginning of the war, reports the independent Meduza.

- Why is Zelensky behaving like this? We got along well with him, on good terms [...] What is he talking about?

Lukashenko claims that malicious foreign forces are trying to drag Belarus into war, and are using Zelensky as a tool. He adds that "a dictatorship like in Belarus is better than a democracy like in Ukraine."

It was in an interview with American podcaster Lex Fridman that Zelensky claimed that Lukashenko apologized to him a few days after Russia's invasion, and offered him to bomb an oil refinery on Belarusian soil in return.

Analyst: Bad news for Pokrovsk if neighboring village falls

Yesterday, Russia claimed to have taken control of the village of Kurachove in the Donetsk region, while Ukraine says the fighting is still ongoing. However, Ukraine usually only acknowledges losses a few days after Russia declares victory, according to the AP.

If Kurachove has indeed fallen, it is bad news for the nearby town of Pokrovsk, analyst Roman Pohorily told the BBC. It would open up for Russian attacks from another direction as Kurachove and Pokrovsk are linked by roads.

The Kyiv Independent writes that civilians are now forced to make a difficult decision: to stay in the war zone or to flee and start their lives over.

Putin Gives Commanders Crosses with His Initials

Vladimir Putin has ordered that necklaces of crosses engraved with his initials be distributed to Russian commanders in Ukraine, reports the independent Moscow Times.

During a mass last Christmas, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, was tasked by the president to bless the jewelry.

“I believe that our comrades will be honored to receive these symbols of faith,” says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
